HCG Diet and Me

For a while now I have been researching and contemplating doing the HCG Diet.

What is the HCG Diet??

This diet was created by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950s. If you aren't familiar with the hormone HCG, it is what women produce when they are pregnant. It is the hormone detected on pregnancy tests. HCG helps support the corpus luteum, which produces progesterone, until the placenta takes over. Progesterone supports the uterus and make it "incubator-like" for the growing embryo. It also causes the body to tap into fat stores for food when a woman is suffering from morning sickness.

It is that reason that the HCG diet works.

While taking HCG (injection, pellets, or drops) a Very Low Calorie Diet is consumed. While taking in just 500 calories a day (calories that are healthy, not junk) the body, under the influence of the HCG taps into the fat stores for fuel. And as a result, there is weight loss.

So before we go on, read this carefully. ;) I'm not interested in your critique or negative comments. They won't be published.

I've done quite a bit of reading and research before making this decision. I have a friend who is a nutritionalist and herbalist and she has helped clients with weight loss with the HCG (and also used it herself). With her help and guidance, I am starting this diet on Monday. The HCG I will be using is in a kit from a company called NuMedica (that's the best link I could find that explains what all is in the kit). I've tried loosing 25-30 pounds on my own. Without a motivation to REALLY stick with what I know I need to do, I fail pretty quickly. With the HCG diet you must make wise food choices or it won't work. And it does work. Because the first part of the diet is done for 40 days I'm encouraged that new habits will be developed.

HERE you can read a simplified version of Dr. Simeon's Pounds and Inches. My loading days will be Monday and Tuesday. Starting Wednesday I will be doing the VLCD. I have planned out all of my meals and snacks for the week. It was a bit easier than I anticipated to plan dinners for me and the family. For example, one night I have turkey burgers planned. Ground turkey isn't on the VLCD list but we don't eat ground beef. I can weigh out my portion and prepare burgers for everyone else plus side dishes for them.

I will be doing before and after pictures to document my progress. I'm not thrilled about it but if it helps someone else, I'll do it. That's one thing that finally tipped me to going ahead with the diet. So...you have that to look forward to. ;)
