Barnabas, AKA Barney

Yesterday's post introduced you to the newest member of our family.

Barney.

Two days ago we lost one of our chickens. They had been out in the run, which doesn't have a roof on it yet (yes...I know...). The kids and I went out to put them back in the coop since the sun was starting to go down. We got seven of them in and my oldest came in the barn/coop asking, "Where's Sweetie Pie???"

She was gone. We suspect a hawk spotted them and she was the unfortunate one.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon. Big Daddy had been in the barn and came in saying that he thought he heard a chicken off to the side where the coop is not located. He started cleaning some things out and moving some wood. I took his phone (which doubles as a flashlight) and peered back in the corner he said he heard our lost chicken. As I leaned over with his phone light I saw something black and fuzzy go under some wood.

"Umm...that was black and fuzzy...that was NOT Sweetie Pie!", I said.

He kept moving wood and the little critter came back around. After a few more pieces were moved and I could almost see and reach, I saw the little kitten ears. :) And as I leaned over again his little face turned and I had two tiny crystal blue eyes staring back at me.

The first picture yesterday was just after we brought him in the house. Of course the kids (and me ;)..who are we kidding??) fell in love. Not too long after we had a name.

Barney (I say his full, given name is Barnabas..lol). Because we found him in the barn. Kudos to Big Daddy for thinking of that name!!

The other picture is later in the evening. As you can see, he found the perfect spot to snuggle. In fact, that's where he is laying right now taking an afternoon nap.

So we lost a chicken but we gained a kitten. :) I tried to convince my youngest that I had super powers and turned Sweetie Pie into a cat...but he didn't believe me.
