A Client of Firsts

Almost five and a half years ago I began doing birth work.  In October of 2006 my very first client delivered her son and it was a successful VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean).  Not long after that I was sucked into the birth world and began studying midwifery.  

A few months ago that same client announced that she was expecting again.  We started chatting about options for her delivery (VBAC providers choices are very slim in our city), general pregnancy questions, I offered to bring my doppler so they could her the fetal heart tones for the first time, and also offered to go with her to her first doctor's appointment to meet a new doctor. 

That appointment was today, which included an ultrasound.  Her plan was to not watch while the doctor looked for the baby's gender.  They had brought a boy onesie and a girl onesie.  Whichever was revealed was to go into a box to be wrapped and opened on Christmas morning as a family.  

The doctor started the ultrasound.  As he scanned over her belly it was pretty obvious.

Twins.  Two sweet little babies (and yes, I know the genders) curled up and wiggling in her belly.

My very first doula client has now become my very first client with twins!!!!  Needless to say I am so very excited (and they are as well!).  Looking forward to palpating a twin belly and being there to support her through a twin birth!!
