Yesterday went without a post because I was busy parenting naturally. Hee hee.
Really though, we were busy!! After getting home from the dentist with two of my kidlets we went into Home Economics mode. Last week we were gone for half of the week, a doctor appointment and activities on Thursday, I had to work on Friday, I helped my mother in law with a wedding shower, and Sunday had to get groceries. The house was quite poorly neglected!!!! I made the decision to put off school work one more day and declare Monday as Home Economics Day!!!
Each of the kidlets have two jobs they are responsible for each week. We shuffle them and distribute them on Saturday. They don't earn an allowance for doing these jobs. These are things that we all have to do pitch in to do in order to keep the house functioning for the entire family.

Why Saturday? I do grocery shopping on Sunday and one of the jobs is "Dinner". The one who has that job is responsible for planning a meal, helping to prepare it, setting the table, and helping to clean up. So I need to know their meal choice before I get groceries. ;) So yesterday they each got their job done, if it needed to be done. Then I put them to work on helping clean up rooms.
It was a beautiful sight really....watching the house get cleaned. ;) The kids just loved helping and getting stuff done.
ANYWAY...with some poking and prodding and reminding that I was NOT the one who made all of those messes...we got it done. It was actually kind of nice because there was so much to be done, I could delegate to each of the kids so that everyone was busy.
I also got our school area (aka: dining room) updated a bit. When I was cleaning out and organizing the garage a couple weeks ago I found several posters we had up at the old house. So instead of the job board propped up and two posters on the wall, I found the bits to hang the board and put up more posters!! See....

The white paper at the top left is our time line. It will eventually wrap around the dining room. But right now we are only at the Roman Empire and the fall of Israel to the Assyrians (today's lesson ;) ) so it hasn't gone very far.

In this picture all I added was the world map.
But if you look under the globe, you might spot two new books and propped next to the globe is another new book. I hit the closing sale at Borders and got the DK Encyclopedia of Animals, the Kingfisher Science Encyclopedia, and a solar system lift-the-flap (it is FULL of information!!! It's the one that is propped next to the globe) for 40% off!! Yay me.
Today we are (finally) back to our normal, daily school routine. It's the first day in quite a while (see the first paragraph!) that I have nothing on my calendar and we can just be home!
We will also have time to tend to our gardens today. Last week we had our first big Spring storm. The second band of storms that came through that night washed out some of the mulch in my front garden. There are also quite a bit of weeds to pick!! But more importantly, I'm going to (finally) get seeds planted in the raised beds!!!! Yesterday I got them planned out and have marked off on the boxes with string so I'll remember where things are until they start growing.
In closing, a picture of Abby with her new umbrella. She really likes it. Can you tell???
