Welcome to my little space on the 'net!! And welcome to the Blog Party!!
I'm Heather.
- My husband and I have been married for 13.5 years.

- We have four children. They are 13, 10, 8, and 5. Three girls and one boy. In that order.
- We have a dog, two cats, and......21 fish. Yes, you read that right. One daughter has a betta. Another daughter has a tank with a mollie and an angel fish. The younger two have a tank with a guppy, a mollie, and SIXTEEN of the mollie's babies!!! There might be seventeen or eighteen babies because a few weeks ago, she had twenty more. Thankfully she ate most of them (hey..don't make me out to be a bad person..it's what they do..they eat their fry).
(Sorry..I don't have pictures of ALL of them so they'll just have to all be left out of the picture sharing bit.)
- I am a midwife. My midwifery partner and I assist families who want to birth their babies at home. Yes, people still do that. No, I am not a hippie. Yes, it is safe for those who have a low-risk pregnancy.

- I am originally from Kansas. Came to Oklahoma to go to college, met my husband, and we built our little life here in Oklahoma.
- I also enjoy doing henna. My girls and I love to do our hands and feet in the summer (well, and the youngest who likes me to do spiders and cool boy-stuff on his hands). I also love doing belly henna.
- Chocolate is my favorite. Well, that and Pomegranate Energy fro yo from Cherry Berry.
So Miss Lynnette had some questions listed on her blog. I will attempt to answer some of them.
Who is your favorite blogger? Why?
Oh..this is a hard one!!! I'm not sure I have one favorite. See that list of blogs over on the left? Yeah, I like all of those. And each for different reasons. Let's narrow it down to three (which was really really hard), in no particular order.
1. Attic 24 - It's just so happy and cheery there. I LOVE the colors and her patterns. It's also fun to get a glimpse into what living in the UK is like.
2. Midwife Thinking - Straight-forward and informative.
3. Dancing Barefoot - No, really. I'm not playing favorites because she's hosting the blog party. Us Kansas girls have to stick together! ;) I love how down to earth Lynnette is and also the creativity within her family.
Do you have a strong desire to do something you’ve never done? What is it?
I want to learn to care for clients having twins and breech babies.
Movies: Action, Drama, Romantic Comedy, Documentary, Comedy? What are your favorite genres?
I enjoy most genres. Well, I don't care much for horror. lol
Books: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Romance, Biographies, True Stories, Self-Help, Devotional/Study? What are your favorite types of reading material?
Anything related to pregnancy, labor, birth, breastfeeding, or postpartum. I also love finding copies of old books.
Music: What are your favorite types?
Depends on my mood. My usual picks are Pop, Classic Rock, Classical (it's amazing how turning that on in the car makes the kids quiet down..lol), Christian, and movie music (either scores or selections from musicals).
If you inherited a million dollars, what is the first thing you would do with your money?
Pay off debt. Yeah yeah...of course I would set a % aside for giving. But my first choice would be to take care of our debts.
If you could live anywhere at all (and take all your loved ones with you), where would you go?
The NW or NE coast.
Favorite TV Shows
Desperate Housewives, Biggest Loser, Big Love, Ruby, Dexter, The Office, Community, Outsourced, Glee, and Warehouse 13.
What’s something you consider yourself to be good at?
Midwifery. I'm pretty awesome.
What is one of your favorite things to catch a whiff of?
The smell of a fireplace. The smell of a newborn baby.
If money wasn’t a factor, what stores would you shop in?
IKEA (which would also mean trips to Dallas so that I could shop there), Williams-Sonoma, Anthropologie, Pampered Chef (I know, not really a store but this is my blog and it's my answer..lol), Whole Foods or Akins so we could eat more natural/organic,.....
What is your greatest fear or strange phobia?
Birds flying around my head.
What is your greatest accomplishment?
Well, I think I probably have to say birthing four children. I really did put a lot of effort into that accomplishment. But aside from that, becoming a midwife.
What are your favorite animals?
Cats. I also think rabbits would be fun to have as pets.

Loved reading this even if I knew most of the answers! ;-P However, just as an FYI.....and this could be important..... my barn swallows are nesting over my front door again and WILL FLY AROUND YOUR HEAD if you come see me! If you do, remind me to let you in the garage! :-)
Stopping by from the Blog Party. We just moved to Oklahoma and are discovering everything it has to offer. The smell of a fireplace is a fantastic scent!
Nice to meet you. I am in awe of you delivering babies!! It must be so rewarding!
I love the afghan you crocheted, it's beautiful. I too crochet, but I'm just learning. The henna art is really cool and so is the midwifery. Great job! And the fishy fry tale made me laugh. Have a wonderful week!
Michelle
Nice to meet you, too! I'm in awe of your ability to bring life into this world. THat must be amazing!
Kahri ~ We had barn swallows nest on our porch when I was growing up. They are actually kinda fun. But still...mental note made. ;)
Stephanie ~ Hello! Oh, I don't deliver them, I am simply there to assist my client in that part. :)
Karen ~ Welcome to OK!
Michelle ~ Hi! Thanks! That picture was taken quite a while ago, it's bigger now! There is a blog post here somewhere about it. That one is for my son (but he doesn't know yet) and I plan on making each of my girls a blanket. :)
Ha! I love your previous post about the blog party coming and you've got huge pictures of a mucus plug posted. lol
I love doing henna too. It is so much fun. Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you!! I also love The Office and Glee. :)
Nice to meet you too. Glad to find another only who has more than one kid themself.
I wish you were closer! I could use a good midwife right now...I'm 36 1/2 weeks pregnant! I love that you home school! I wish I had the patience to do that with my LO's, but I need those few hours with the house to myself...or at least with less of them. LoL! I love to crochet also...it's such great stress relief!
Great post! You're into very interesting things ~ henna and midwifery (is that a word?). . . Cool!
Oh, and peanut butter chocolate ice cream is definitely my very favorite! Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I'm dropping in from the blog party! Love your post!
Hi there,,, Stopping by from Lynnette's Blog Party, and so glad that I did!
Your blog is so bright and interesting...
Just to share,, we have delivered a few of our children at home, and the first birth we had was breech.
I hope you can help moms with situations like this.. like you mentioned...
I have had to turn our last few from that position on my own,,,
with a few different things.
We are due in about 12 days with baby # 15.
Your answers were fun to read.
Blessings,
September

September ~ Praying that you have a blessed birth!!
Michelle ~ Oh yes, we love that show! I have a few theories about how they are going to end it. But I'm usually wrong about those things. lol Do you do henna as well?
Thanks for stopping by my blog! It's nice to see we have a lot of similarities (including the 4 children). But mine were all had by C-Section and I bet yours were not!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! We have a lot in common expect I have never helped birth a baby but I do think that is amazing that you help women that way.
Blessings
Amy @ Missional Mama
It was nice to meet you, both of my children were born at home, and I would do it again in a heart beat. In fact my little sister is about to have her 2nd baby at home, and I am so jealous, it is such a wonderful experience.!!
Loved reading your all-about-me, Heather!
And for the record, Heather is the bestest doula in the whole entire world. I simply adore her!
Hey Heather {and former Kansas girl}! It's nice to "meet" you - hey I just recognized Michelle Underwood's graphics in your background! Anyway it was fun reading your post and getting to know some of Lynnette's chums a little better. I'm trying to get to everyone. I've read 20 today, don't know if I'll ever get to everyone :) Have a great week!
Lisa
Hi Heather!
Popping over from Lynnette's Blog. It's nice to meet another Kansas girl! I wasn't born there but I did grow up there till my college years. Now I'm in the South to stay... :-)
I've never heard of Henna but it looks interesting. I'll have to look it up.
Have a blessed week!
Lyn @ Homeschooler's Journey
~she~ - And thank you too,! No, mine were not c-section. The first two were hospital births and the last two were at home.
Amy (MissionalMama) ~ Hi! Thanks for coming by my blog!
Amy ~ Hello! I loved the denim apron on your blog!!
My Jenny!!! :)
Lisa ~ Hello! I'm trying to get through the entire list too! :) It's been such fun and I'm finding several new blogs to follow!
Lyn ~ Yay..yet another KS girl!! Henna is fun and addicting!! You can even color hair with it!!
What an amazing and rewarding job you have! I love the belly henna, too. Nice to meet you in blog world. Blessings to you...
Thanks for stopping by my blog this afternoon! Yes, I get the "so, you finally got your boy" comment often.
I just have to ask since you're in Oklahoma-red or orange? :)
Ick. Neither!! lol My colors are red and blue. ROCK CHALK!!!
Great blog!!
(and I'm chuckling from your previous post about the mucus plug -- I saw it when I scrolled down to leave you a comment)
As a momma of seven, I'm telling you thanks for all you do.
Rachel
Yeah, that mucous plug. hmmmm.... Looks familiar. Nine times I've spotted that. Why didn't it gross me out? Should have, right? It actually made me want to be pregnant. Weird. That hasn't happened in a while. Baby yes. Pregnancy. Ugh. (Last three weren't much fun).
Okay, now to the blog party. YAY! So glad you were able to join in! It's been a good one eh? Lovin' it!
That's cool that you're a midwife! I had Abigail at home. I'd have loved to have had all of them at home, but with my high risk scenario (having had three babies with big issues), I just didn't want to put that burden on a midwife.
Birds flying over head freaks you out huh? Did one leave a mark on you once? :)
What part of Kansas are you from? Do you ever come for a visit? If so, drop me a note and we'll go to STARBUCKS!
Enjoy blog hoppin' this week!
Chums,
Lynnette
Visiting from the blog party! Love your very informative...and I love to crochet, as well...I'm not very good but i enjoy doing it.
Be Blessed!
Lolli/aka Lisa
Lynnette ~ I'm so honored and thrilled that you stopped by! No, haven't had any marks left. I just get pretty freaked out with their wings flapping around all out of control with no idea where they are going or what they are going to do. lol I'm from Wichita. :) From birth until I left for college. I do come visit, my Mom still lives there. Oh! I would love to meet sometime. :)
Lisa ~ Thanks for visiting!
Hi Heather...I'm Lynnette's Mom Linda. I enjoyed meeting you.
We have a friend who is a Midwife named Kathy B. I was there when Lynnette had Abigail at home and I was so amazed by the whole thing! The miracle of life is so fascinating. I used to watch "A Baby Story" and even enjoyed following the birth experiences of total strangers! I can see why someone would enjoy midwifery.
The Henna drawings are interesting too. How long do they last? You are a good artist. Do you do other forms of art?
So you are a Kansas Girl! We live in Derby, and have been here for over 30 years and I love it here. But we used to live in Colorado and Calif.too and we enjoyed that too. I love the ocean...and the mountains. Every place has something to offer.
You have a sweet family. And I enjoyed reading some of your posts.
Have fun at the party!
Linda @ Truthful Tidbits
I recognize that henna belly! :-) That was so much fun! You are definitely on my list of people I wish I could take to D.C. with me. :-P
Hi Heather! Just stopping by from the blog party. That is so cool that you're a midwife. We have 10 living children and of those births we've had 3 birth center births with a midwife and 1 unassisted birth here at our home. If I could be more than one person I would love to be a midwife or doula. And yes, the smell of a newborn is fantastic!!!
I enjoyed reading your answers and it was nice "meeting" you!
Blessings!
Kris
I love the smell of a fireplace too....teresa
http://teresa-grammygirlfriend.blogspot.com/
for some reason blogger is not letting me comment....UGH
I think it's great you are a MW. I had my first natural birth experience and a MW delivered this past Sept. I had a water birth and it was wonderful! Id love to do a homebirth.
Just realized that I hadn't yet commented on your post! Ack--I am so behind. You are an amazingly awesome midwife, mom, friend, and all-around fabulous person! I am so very, very grateful that you are in my life. <3 <3 <3
Nice to meet you! I stopped by from the Party! I love that you're a midwife. My husband and I are just beginning the process of discussing pregnancy and childbirth and I love the idea of natural. Do you have a few words of wisdom for me?
blessings!
I blog @ http://www.kevinandmel.com/
You have a lovely family!
You asked on my blog if I was planning on having another homebirth, Lord willing yes. I hope it goes as smoothly as my first.
Midwifery is a beautiful art/profession/ministry/other things. I've thought how much I would like being one, but then I realized I like my calm life which makes me respect midwifes all the more :D.
