Last week I went to Hobby Lobby to buy something to use for a centerpiece on our Thanksgiving table. Inside the door were two shopping carts, both half-full (or half-empty?) with signs that said, "Fall/Thanksgiving merchandise 80% off". "Hmm...", I thought, "Surely this isn't ALL of the Fall/Thanksgiving merchandise."
By golly it was.
Everything thing else in the holiday section of the store was Christmas.
Not a turkey, pilgrim, or fall leaf to be found.
I actually felt a little depressed. And if you know me, you know I LOVE Christmas. It's my favorite.
But this rush to Christmas we seem to be doing this year makes me sad. This year Christmas lights have gone up AND been turned on earlier on houses (one not far from us has had their lights on since halloween!!). Stores have Christmas merchandise out earlier. Many stores are having "Pre-Black Friday Sales". Today a radio station here has been playing Christmas music all day. I'm sad that stores and people seem to be forgetting what season this is. Here, I'll remind you:
THANKSGIVING
A time to stop, gather with family and/or friends, and to remember what we are thankful for. To stop and really thank God for all He has done for us. Sure, we are supposed to do that all the time. But the holiday is a time to be off from work, be with those we love, and REALLY stop our lives and thank Him.

Oh Heather, I am SO with you on this one! I REFUSE to break out the egg nog and the decorations till after Thanksgiving! It's so obvious that the reason there's no Thanksgiving stuff in stores is because there's not much money to be made off it. Disgusting.
Love this!
