Recently, while becoming VERY bored with the Fisherman's Wife Shawl I am making, I decided to make a lap/bed blanket for each of my kids.
This is the first of four.
Emily is the only one who doesn't have a baby blanket (I re-started crocheting when I was expecting Abby so some day I'll have to make Em one). I came across some really great patterns and thought it would be nice if each of them had a larger blanket. This one for Matthew will be large enough for a lap/napping blanket. I may do twin-bed sized for the girls though (I don't know many men who have crocheted blankets on their bed for display). Until I am done with all four, this long-term project will remain a secret to the kiddos. Once I have them all done I want to give them for Christmas.
Their blanket will reflect their personalities as much as I can. Not sure how this one matches Matthew though. It's just a durable pattern and he helped pick the colors. :)
I had just him for a few hours one afternoon and we stopped into Hobby Lobby. A couple skeins were starting to form a pyramid in the seat part of the shopping cart. I picked up that dark brown and a lighter, tan shade. Matthew was looking at something several steps away in the isle and as I was looking at the two browns, having just removed the darker one to look at the lighter one, I heard, "Oh Mama, no. Not that one. I like the other one better!! See...come here Mama...see it...that one is better."
And so the color scheme was picked. I didn't intend to pick rainbow colors. It just happened that way. :) I think I would have liked a navy blue in there as well but #1 I didn't think about that until getting several stripes done and #2 when I bought the yarn they only had one skein of that color so I didn't even consider it.
This blanket is working up fairly quickly. Well, as quickly as I can find time to sit down and work on it. I'm glad because I don't like projects that take f-o-r-e-v-e-r (see above about my boredom with the shawl) and I'm really excited to start on the girls' blankets!!!!
