What exciting things have been happening around here.....
We got our van repaired. Two days and $735 later, it's not leaking oil anymore. And it better not leak. Or do anything else weird for that matter! He seemed pretty confident that they sealed up the leaks well.
Still loving our new church. The Fall Sunday School classes started up this past Sunday. Emily is in the 5th-6th grade group. It seems like a good sized group of kids and they have some fun activities planned for this year. The other two girls are in the K-4th grade group. They start out all together in one room and then split up by grade level. Gracie got a little confused since at home she's in 1st grade but in public school terms, she would be in K this year. So when she heard them gathering the 1st graders, she went with them. Kev and I are going to a class for 30-40 year olds and the leader is teaching on Romans. It was pretty interesting. In a few weeks the Wednesday night programs start up and we're really excited about that.
Em (finally) got her results back from the ITBS testing. She did pretty good. :) There were a few things she scored low in but they are things we either just started learning about (i.e. semicolons, colons, apostrophes) or haven't covered very much (i.e. geography). The one beef I have with it is not seeing the test questions to know what exactly was being asked. Since the test was in May and it's now August, she doesn't remember what kinds of things were asked for the subjects (in the hopes that I could maybe narrow down what she got wrong). I think if we do this again I will try the CAT 1970 service. That way we will have the booklets so I can see what exactly is being asked. Not to "teach the test" but to have that information when the results come. We can look at the problems that were missed and go over them together.
It's been several weeks since Kev hasn't been working at our former church. Well...he is still doing a little bit of work for them, helping to edit and post the sermon to the website. For which I am very grateful for since it helps with the checking account and all. It still leaves a bit of a hole in the budget. However....God has been taking care of us and we've had things come in that have pretty much replaced that money:
- I had a former client give me a little gift in honor of her daughter's first birthday (that helped with groceries last week).
- With school starting back up, one of Kev's responsibilities is to get the students' computers up and running (each student in the department he works in gets a laptop as part of their tuition for the program). This meant he had to work some extra hours last week. But this also meant that he has six hours of overtime on tomorrow's paycheck.
- The freelance on-hold work that he does here at home was more than usual this month.
- I had an interview about a month ago, the couple paid the deposit for doula services but she was interested in monitrice services. They needed to talk more so I told them to just get back with me later. She contacted me last week to let me know they wanted to do the monitrice service and needed to get together to sign the contract and pay the rest of the deposit that's due for those services. We're doing that today. (That will help with groceries this coming week.)
I'm starting to get geared back up for school to start. I put some books on hold the other evening for History lessons. Next I need to sit down and make a list of materials for Chemistry. It's nice not having to worry about getting stuff done and having a little break but I'm ready to start back up.
