I can hear you out there....

"What a BORING blog!!"
"When is she ever going to post something new?"
"Why do I bother checking this blog?"

So here I am. I've just been busy. Not all of us are able to sit around all day eating bon-bons while posting to our blogs. Gheeesh.

Anyway.....

The kids and I had a fun weekend at my Mom's house. We hung out, ate Chinese food (a treat for the kids since the yummy place by our house has been closed), went to a museum, and attended a Dorm Shower.

Now we are home and would be back to normal life but our van is in the shop. Again today. It's leaking oil and transmission fluid from somewhere. The place I took it to yesterday said it was too big a problem for them to even want to attempt tackling. So they suggested another place near our house. That's where it is as I type. Hopefully it will be a fix that isn't outrageous and I don't hear, "You may as well just get a new vehicle."

So I promised to share more about what's been going on after things settled down some. Mostly it was because we didn't know how some things were going to play out. But they did and it's all good. :) Some changes were made at our church and they decided to relieve Kev of his position of "sound guy". Which came as a bit of a shock since he's been there for six years. And also a shock since we relied on the income that position provided for things like....oh...food and gas for our van. Nothing too terribly important. LOL!!!

Now a little back-story. We have taken the girls to VBS at Redeemer Covenant Church for the last three years. Oh, and to their "Trunk or Treat" and Easter Egg Hunt. Mainly because those are cool things to do as a kid and our church offered nothing like that. I've thought in the past, and particularly this year during VBS, "I wonder what their Sunday services are like and what it would be like to go to church here." But since Kev had a position at our church (and since we did rely on that for $, it's not like we'd voluntarily say, "Hey..just quit that job so we can switch churches!!! YAY!!!") and we do love the church, it never came up.

So fast-forward to in the middle of wondering what was going to happen with his position. I hesitantly brought up that maybe sometime we should just go visit. And even if they had him work every other Sunday, we could attend RCC as a family on his weeks off. Pretty much the second the words left my lips, Kev replied with, "Yes!! I've wondered the same thing. Let's do it!" It was one of those cool, eerie moments where you realize both of you have been thinking the exact same thing but haven't said anything yet.

The next day when I ran to get lunch during a break between prenatals, I ran into a family from RCC (she was wearing this year's VBS shirt). So I chatted with her for a minute. Turned out she works with the children's ministry and told me where to find her the next morning if I needed anything. How wild is that?

Kev had to work that Sunday morning so I took the kids to RCC. We went to their Sunday School hour and while I was there, Kev called. He said all he was doing was pushing a button on the cd recorder every five minutes and he didn't want to or need to be there for the second service and he wanted to come to church with us. So I went to get him. For the first time in six years, we went to church as a family. :) After the service he found a friend of his who attends church there and we went out to lunch with their family.

We absolutely love the way they have their Sunday morning set-up! The children (ages 3+) have classes during the Sunday School hour but during service, they are in the worship service. One thing that is very important to us is that children are welcome in the service. So actually having them in the service with no other option is even better! [They do have Church Time for 3-K during the service but Gracie wanted to stay with us] We both really enjoyed sitting together as a family!! Both Kev and I had and still have a real peace about being there and getting involved.

One of my biggest worries was that people would think we left our church simply because Kev wasn't being paid anymore. While that is somewhat true, it's only a very small part of why. It's true because by being relieved of his position there, it freed us up...completely out of our control...to be put where God wants us right now. One of our desires, especially as a Homeschooling family, is for our children to make life-long connections at church. We want them to have opportunities to get involved (and also have opportunities for he and I to be more involved) with a church family. And our church just didn't offer that. There really weren't many opportunities at all to interact with people outside of Sunday morning.

So here we are. Feeling like we are where God wants us, excited about new possibilities and facing a budget that is much less than it was before. Fun times! :) So we'll see where this path takes us.

I talked to Gary about it and we are going to come next Sunday to check it out. In fact, I'm listening to one of your new pastor's sermons as I type this. :0)
