Eventually I will plant it.
Many people choose a special tree or plant to bury the placenta under. The placenta (if buried deep enough) will give nutrients to the plant (if you bury it too close, the nutrients are too much and will kill it). And you have a special plant for the child.
I have hesitated to plant Matthew's because #1 I don't want to do it in the ground since we won't live here forever and #2 I haven't found a pot big enough that I like or can afford. Oh..and #3 I haven't decided what plant to get for him. So until I can settle on something and buy the pot, it's staying in my freezer.
Our culture is different from many in regards to placentas. Many other cultures honor and respect the placenta because of the job it does during pregnancy. It is not thrown in a blue bucket and dumped in the incinerator or sold for biology. You can more about that here:

I had planned on doing a placenta print (that website shows it done with paint...I can't find the site I was looking for that shows how to do it right after birth) and making placenta essence with Matthew's. We got busy trying to get my apparently starving and screaming man-child to latch on and nurse so we forgot about the print. And in preparation for the birth, I never had the extra $ to buy the booze for the essence. I was however prepared to, in the event of a severe postpartum hemorrhage, to put a sliver of placenta between my gum and cheek to help slow the bleeding.
Aren't you glad you read this blog? ;)
I should be getting ready for our little trip to Grandma's house. I was waiting on the dryer to finish tossing some clothes so the girls can fold them and it appears the dryer is done. Which means I need to get up and get some things done.
