Tomorrow my sweet little baby boy will be sleeping in the toddler bed. My BABY....the one in the picture who used to fit perfectly in the cradle (the cradle that my Uncle made for me and the cradle that all of my babies have slept in).
This baby (isn't he beautiful!!)........
Isn't so much a baby anymore. In exactly a month he'll be 2 years old. It's time for the big boy bed and for potty training. Gone are my days of having a baby in the house. Yes, he's almost two so those baby days ended quite a while ago. Something about this stage of new found independance really stabs me and says, "He's not a baby anymore." For a while after the wobbly first steps began I could still hold onto a small glimmer of babyhood. The end of breastfeeding was the first baby step for me in slowly letting go of his babyhood.
But the big boy bed? I've been putting it off for a while now. First of all because I've done this whole big kid bed three times now and it can be very trying when you are training them to stay IN bed. But even moreso, it's like someone taking a pair of scissors and cutting the tiny thread I was using to hold on to his babyhood.
But I'll get over it. And eventually I'll be posting a new blog entry about something else one of my kids is doing that I'm not ready for.

hey I'm glad you posted this - so we should maybe email offline, but i've been contemplating this issue - we aren't taking belle's Pack N play to china with us so i was wondering at 15 mos can she just transition to a bed? and i was thinking maybe a mattress on the floor instead of a toddler bed? i don't know any of the real toddler bed issues? and is this a really BIG transition because she'll be transitioning back to a new country/city/climate/schedule/faces/everything.... is that to much transition at one time? do you mind emailing me (chanabug@yahoo.com) your thoughts sometime? the coming of baby #2 has precipitated these thoughts cause i'd like to get her in a real bed and #2 in an infant travel bed through next summer then maybe switch #2 over to a PnP. make sense? thoughts? thanks!
